Darren Schroeder is a comic artist, writer, and editor from Ōtautahi Christchurch. He was the longest serving editor of Funtime Comics Collective's comic anthology Funtime Comics Presents, from #5 (November 1993) until #21 (29th of September 2005). On the 9th of October 2002, Darren founded the previous New Zealand comics wiki Kiwi Comics, at the URL "comics.org.nz". The wiki was operational by the 9th of October 2002, and was still accessible on the 11th of October 2011.[1] The website was archived by the National Library of New Zealand at 9am on the 15th of April 2009.[2]

Since retiring as the editor of Funtime Comics Presents, Darren has moved to the UK where he spent time on his allotment growing corn and potatoes, then returned to NZ to play bowls. He edited the Small Press section of Comics Bulletin for 7 years, and contributed the occasional interview and review regarding mainstream comics. He has written articles on New Zealand comics for Comic Edge, Comic Quarterly, Stripschrift, Comic Australia and various other magazines and web sites; as well as maintaining fan sites for the comic characters Man-Thing, Jonah Hex, and comic creator Keith Giffen. He puts John Weeks' "Everyone can do comics" philosophy to the harshest test possible in his own mini comic, Mopy. His proudest moment in small press comics was when he caught a fly ball in the outfield during the 1999 Small Press Expo versus Diamond Distributors softball game as Neil Gaiman cheered from the sidelines.[3]

Since the 17th of November 2023, Darren has been a diligent contributor to the Neglect Comics Wiki, working to transfer the Kiwi Comics Wiki's archive of information over to this wiki, and for that we are immensely grateful.
