Dr Gareth R. Schott is a senior lecturer in Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato. His research interests include games studies; media psychology; media fandom; digital cultures and literacy in the new media age. He can supervise research in virtual spaces and their associated communities, boarder communities or sub-cultures (e.g. Heavy Metal), media fandom, media literacy, media education, critical theory, social psychology, ubiquitous and pervasive technologies, media texts such as machinima, gamics, comic books, graphic novels. He is widely published on the representation of sexuality and gender in superheroes, including his co-authored book From 'Ambiguously Gay Duos' to Homosexual Superheroes: The role of sexuality in comic book fandom
