Sam Orchard is a Comic Writer and Artist, Illustrator, and Animator from Aotearoa. He is the Assistant Curator of the Cartoons and Comics Archive of the Alexander Turnbull Library collection of the National Library of New Zealand. He is also the co-coordinator of ComicFest.
Sam was also a founding member of the The Dunedin Comic Collective.[1]
Sam Orchard's autobio webcomic ‘Rooster Tails’ explores his life as a queer transgender man, the comic explores themes of mental health, fat embodiment, nerd culture, trans lives, and caring for a food-obsessed cat. He is also the author of ‘Family Portraits’, a series of short comic stories that amplify the stories of intersectional identities within rainbow communities. His comics and resources have been used across the globe.[2] In August 2018, Sam provided the cover portrait for Sharon Davies' autobiography, Little and Loud - My Life Story.
